We are very lucky to have so many great animal rescue groups in our area. We also have some excellent municipal shelters, many who go above and beyond to help the animals that come into their care. There are counties around us who are not so fortunate, so we should always be grateful for the good things we do have.
Every day, the Mobile SPCA receives phone calls and private messages from those who need our help. Perhaps they’ve found a stray dog or cat but are unable to keep them. Maybe for reasons beyond their control they are unable to keep their own pet, or a friend or relative’s pet has become orphaned and needs a new family. Sometimes they have simply failed to alter their own dog or cat and suddenly find themselves with an unwanted litter. And we are not alone. Rescue groups and municipal shelters everywhere go through the very same thing, day after day. It’s unending.
But we always want to help if we possibly can, and countless folks have found a waystation with us for an unwanted pet. And when that happens you can be assured that the pet will be in good hands and will soon (hopefully!) find a new, happy home. But it’s also important to remember that even though rescue groups are non-profit, we are still essentially a “business” which means we can’t stay operational without financial assistance in the form of donations. So whenever we or another group or municipal shelter helps you with an animal in need, if you’re able, thank them with a monetary donation, however small. Together, we can all make a difference for homeless pets.
