Often we are contacted either by phone or by email or through social media about possible neglect or abuse of animals. An animal that is being injured or neglected needs help IMMEDIATELY and only law enforcement has the capability and authority to investigate such charges.
Cruelty to animals is not only inhumane, it is illegal. The Mobile SPCA helps educate people about the laws regarding cruelty to animals. We have been instrumental in the seizure of wantonly abused animals and the prosecution and conviction of their owners. We do not, however, have a cruelty investigator nor the legal authority to go onto someone’s private property unless we are asked by law enforcement to accompany them.
Complaints of all animal neglect, abuse and cruelty must first be directed to your local animal shelter or the police/sheriff’s department. This includes dogs, cats, exotics and livestock. If action is not taken in a timely manner please call the Mobile SPCA and we will contact them as well.
