This grant will cover the cost for basic medical care for 600 cats and kittens this year
Mobile SPCA has received an adoption prep grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare Mobile’s shelter cats and kittens for adoption and ensure they are healthy and ready to find loving homes. With the help of this grant, the organization will get cats vaccinated, spayed or neutered, vet checked, microchipped and ready for adoption.
Each year the Mobile SPCA takes homeless cats and kittens from municipal shelters and the public, gets them ready for adoption and finds caring homes for them.
“Once we get these kitties ready for adoption, they will go to the PetSmart store in the Pinebrook Shopping Center where they will find forever homes,” said Janine Woods, Executive Director of the Mobile SPCA. “The Mobile SPCA places about 600 cats and kittens into loving homes each year. It’s very expensive altering, vaccinating, and giving prevention and dewormer to 600+ felines. We could not help this many kitties alone! We are very grateful to have PetSmart Charities partner with us for this worthwhile cause. By getting these cats and kittens off the streets, spayed or neutered and into homes we are saving lives and preventing litters,” Woods added. “It’s a win-win!”
Since 1994, through its partnership with nearly 4,000 humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescues across North America, PetSmart Charities has helped more than 9 million pets to find loving homes via its in-store adoption program in over 1,650 PetSmart® stores. As the leading funder of animal welfare, PetSmart Charities has also donated nearly $400 million to positively impact communities, help preserve families, improve access to veterinary care and connect people and pets through initiatives like this partnership with Mobile SPCA.
“Partners like the Mobile SPCA do an incredible job caring for pets,” said Heidi Fulcher, Senior Adoption Grants Manager at PetSmart Charities. “But our top priority is to help prepare adoptable pets for their journey to the best place possible: home. We’re proud to support access to more pets creating happier families and healthier communities in the city of Mobile.”
