June is National Adopt A Shelter Cat Month and the Mobile SPCA is celebrating by holding a JUST CATS cat and kitten adoption on June 15 at PetSmart on Airport and McGregor Ave from 10 am until 2 pm. Kona Ice and C spire will be joining us.
“We have never had such an influx of cats and kittens and so few people adopting,” said Janine Woods, Mobile SPCA Director. “Cat and kittens are everywhere. Because we have so many in our care — well over 150 — that need homes we are holding a special adoption to try to make space for more homeless felines,” Woods added.
All cats and kittens adopted on Saturday, June 15 will be just $50. “This is such a great deal. If you get a ‘free’ cat or kitten and take care of it by taking it to the vet and getting vaccinations, getting it spayed or neutered, feluk tested – everything a good pet owner should do,” Woods noted, “that ‘free’ cat will cost you several hundred dollars. Our cats have been spayed or neutered, are up to date on vaccinations, are microchipped, feluk negative, vet checked, litter box trained and are on preventatives – plus they are wonderful well socialized cats — all of that for just $50.”
“By adopting a Mobile SPCA cat or kitten you are really saving two lives – the cat you just adopted and the next cat we can then take in. We can only take in more cats if we have room and right now we are out of room,” Woods commented. “If we can move these cats into loving homes we can fill up those empty cages with more cats from the shelter and the public,” Woods added.
The Mobile SPCA reminds you to please spay or neuter your pet and help us cut down on the number of unwanted cats, kittens, dogs and puppies born in Mobile County each year. If you need spay-neuter assistance please call the Mobile SPCA office at 633-3531.
