PET OF THE WEEK

My name is Cassie and I wandered up into somebody's yard as a stray. The neighbor's wanted me gone so they shot guns at me to scare me away. Luckily a very nice lady sheltered me until help arrived. I am very sweet and friendly. I go in my crate when told although it helps if there’s a cookie in it. I can jump really high and need a 6 ft fence and another dog to play with. I love toys and will run around the yard and play chase with them in my mouth and then hide the toy in a safe place. I am very interested in the kitties but they just don't want to play with me. I love love love the water hose, going for rides, getting my bath and peanut butter. I am not too crazy about little kids but older ones are cool and I love to play with them.  I am just 2 years old and only 38 pounds. If you would like to adopt, call (251) 633-3531 or complete the online

Is your dog a good citizen?

Started in 1989, the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a Canine Good Citizen certificate from the American Kennel Club.

All dogs, including both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome to participate. Dogs must be old enough to have received necessary immunizations such as rabies vaccines. Owners will sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge attesting to having the dog under the routine care of a veterinarian.

There is no age limit for the CGC test. A dog is never too old to be a good citizen. Puppies who have completed all immunizations and boosters may be tested.

Dogs should have already mastered sit, down, stay, come and be very well socialized with other people and dogs.  If you think your dog is ready, sign up for a CGC test administered by Tom Royal, an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator. Tests will be held at the Mobile SPCA office.

The testing fee is $15 for all dogs adopted through the Mobile SPCA and $20 for all other dogs. Please let me know you are interested in having your dog tested and certified as a Canine Good Citizen. Click here for more on the program or click here for the requirements for the test.
